Not in the profession but I am a pretty experienced poker player who has played at a lot of casinos and card rooms across the country. Typically, the poker dealer doesn't have a hell of a lot to say. It's important that you deal fast though, and know what's going on otherwise people are going to get annoyed. I'd say speaking for the most part is minimal, except if a situation/dispute arises and something happens then you'll need to step in and sort it out. Thankfully, this type of thing isn't too common and you can always just call the floor. On the other hand, if you want better tips it always helps to be a little chatty and get those relationships going with regulars. If I win a big pot I'll be more generous to dealers that I like and have bothered to get to know me.
