Name and Shame: Florida Man’s Toys I would like to start by saying that this has been the worst experience I have had with a store or a business owner in my entire life. The disrespect crossed a line so far that I had to share this. To give context, I am a person who stutters. I have struggled with this all of my life and it has been anything but easy to battle. I went into this Lego resale store “Florida Man’s Toys” and purchased a Qui Gon mini figure with a lightsaber. The accompanying lightsaber was counterfeit, photos attached. I was very kind in letting him now the saber was inauthentic and did not even want him to replace it. I then returned with about $75 worth of sets and minifigs to trade in and was offered a measly $35 and an additional 25% would be taken off of that for them to “ stay afloat “ it is to note that when trading in figs no matter what they will value them at bricklink last 6 months used value. They will then self proclaimed by the owners wife sell these at bricklink currently listed new value. When I pointed this out to the owners wife in the store and said it is sort of unfair to offer me this transaction she was immediately rude and said we set the prices and this is how we do it. I can respect that, no problem, it is your store and your operation you should be able to do so. So I politely declined the trade in after my peaceful negotiation efforts and left. Still did not think much of this ordeal until I get home and read a text from the owner saying: “Hey man, I’m not interested in buying any of the items you have moving forward. In the future we price our items according to our numbers, and won’t be offering any discounts or price matching.” Screenshots attached. I then left a 1 star Google review which I think is deserving seeing as I was sold fake Lego as well as banned from trading or selling due to asking if I can receive fairer value in peaceful negotiation. The owner then replies to my Google review ( screenshots attached ) saying: “We understand you’re a special individual and we have always been respectful welcoming and polite towards you.” So even after the questionable business operation of buying, selling, and trading. And selling fake Lego he insults my speech impediment calling me a special individual? This seems to be a futile attempt at invalidating my credibility in my review to anyone reading to make them think I am somehow mentally handicapped or “ special “ as he puts it. I do not know what to make of this ordeal or what to do from here. Any guidance would be appreciated as I am quite disturbed at this and how the business owner has handled this. You will see in our text messages I was cordial and was immediately blocked for simply asking for clarification. Let me know your thoughts and how I should handle this as I feel as though I have been discriminated as well as invalidated for having a speech disorder. I am currently 21 and in college trying to be a neurologist for the very purpose of working with stutterers and conduct research at my undergraduate institution in the field of stuttering. Discrimination of this kind Is very commonly seen against stutterers and I have no tolerance for it especially with how most stutterers are treated growing up.
