Two main factors: 1. Time pressure: there is no other word like your name. With other words, you can take 0.5 seconds to think, to breathe, to prepare. But if you do that with your name you get “the look” immediately. 2. You can’t (shouldn’t) change your name. People who stutter change words often without even thinking about it, or at least rephrase our answers. Again, we can’t really do that with our names.
