2 things holding you back Summer is here so I suspect a lot more outdoor activities and therefore more possibilities for social interactions. We all know this is often the times when the stutter gets worse. Here are two things holding you back from improving your fluency: 1- Anxiously anticipating your stutter 2- Rigid and negative beliefs about yourself and others. The first one I think everyone is familiar with at some point. Going over conversations repeatedly, trying to predict your words, paying excessive attention on those feared words etc. Speech is an automatic process, similar to walking, riding a bicycle etc. The moment you try to hijack the natural automaticity that’s the moment you lose your fluency. The second point is a bit more tricky because it requires exploring your in depth beliefs system which may not always be conscious to you. Nonetheless, I belief that everyone at some point must have caught themselves being very judgemental about themselves or having negative assumptions about others. You simply cannot improve your fluency if your brain experience others as a threat. Hope you all make the best of the summer 💪🏾
