I went and got a bachelors degree in CSD (speech therapy). The class on fluency disorders was vital to my acceptance. Coming to understand he nature of the disability and techniques and theories for fluency was awesome. My professor convinced me to speak in front of the class on a panel of people who stutter and that took guts but it was a HUGE release to just get up and talk about stuttering. I felt so amazing afterwards, and realized people are actually interested in the disability, and I found that when I discuss it with people it separates me from the disability. It doesn't define me, and willingness to talk to others about it shows them that. That's the biggest thing. When you meet people just tell them you stutter like its no big deal and show them it doesn't bother you, just makes you kind of a unique speaker.
