Something weird I've noticed with fluency

Something weird I've noticed with fluency Is it just me or does anyone else stutter substantially less when talking without prior knowledge of what you're going to say, just talking off the top of your head. For example, I can have a conversation with a friend of mine without stuttering but as soon as I go to read something the stutter is twice as bad. Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon?
