I'm usually stumbling through it so I'm not much of a teacher on it, but the hotkeys i constantly use are ctrl+K to split a video, ctrl+z of course, and up/down arrows to move the playhead to the start/end of clips. Try looking for free downloadable preset effects for text/images that can save you a ton of work. Learning how keyframes work is the foundation of doing most things like fading in/out sounds and animating graphics. Then you just need to google all the more specific things you might want.
