When I was kid I knew 2-3 at school and speech therapy. Now I'm 30 and I might have met more people who stutter, but they are either capable of controlling or covering it or have just mild stutter. So maybe I didn't notice it or wasn't sure, but it definitely seems rare. I guess that 1% of population who stutter is big range and variety of speech disorders and lot of them might be hard to notice.
