That pained expression can just be down to the person really wanting to help you but not having a clue how to do it. Maybe a smile, to reassure them that everything is OK will make them more comfortable with the situation? Also, if you're going to be speaking for a long period of time then why not kick-off with 'I have a stutter, and I really appreciate your patience'
