Depends on where you live, but in the US this is absolutely legal discrimination. I’m not sure if you have any recourse to get another interview for this specific job at this specific company, but I would highly recommend reporting them to the appropriate authorities so they don’t pull this bullshit on someone else. If you’re in the US, a prospective employer cannot verbally say to you that you aren’t fit to work a job because of a legally protected disability. Check with r/legaladvice I’m sorry this happened to you. It’s happened to me too, and it really fucks with your head and your confidence. Don’t let it get you down, there are lots of companies that aren’t discriminatory and will actually see hiring someone with a disability as a strength rather than a problem. I did a mock interview at Goldman Sachs for people who stutter, and even though Goldman is seen as a evil unfeeling bank, I met a lot of really senior people who have various disabilities from stuttering to blindness to deafness, and they’re all killing it and at the top of their game; and that Goldman appropriately supports and accommodates their needs. So don’t give up. And imo if this is the workplace you’d have to come to everyday, sounds like you dodged a bullet.
