Comments like that are just you being defensive / in retaliatory mode. When someone cites your communication skills, you need to be upfront about your stutter. It's a disability. Reframe it as how well you communicate *despite* your stutter. Make a point that once you're integrated into the team, your stutter will be a non-issue as the people you work with will quickly adapt to a minor communication wrinkle. No different than adapting to someone who speaks English as a second language or has a heavy accent.
