A speech therapist would: * Provide a safe environment to talk about your experiences with an understanding audience and validate the challenge of stuttering. * Let you know that therapy doesn't cure stuttering, but does give you some tools to manage it. * Help identify and reduce any secondary behaviors like tics, grimaces, or sounds that some people who stutter may reflexively develop. * Give you practice at advocating for yourself, such as by supporting you while you practice phone calls or public speaking, and how to tell others about your stutter. * Introduce you to fluency management techniques that can help you to increase your verbal fluency when you need to, by learning which words are more likely to make you stutter and how to shape your pronunciation to say those words more fluently.
