I am so impressed with all of these people who did not allow stuttering to hold them back or to define who they are. I took the cowardly way out. I was too ashamed and embarrassed to continue to stutter in public. I really wanted to be fluent so I can feel better about myself. I was jealous of fluent speakers. I began to ask myself as to why they do not stutter. We both have the same physical characteristics as well as intelligence. I started to do research on how the brain learns to see if I could transform my brain into a fluent brain. I really did not think it was possible but I found I was wrong. Once I understood what makes someone fluent I was able to become a fluent speaker. It was helpful that I am a speech pathologist which gave me some additional knowledge that a layperson would not have. Becoming fluent was truly a life changing experience.
