I’m 30, my parents still act like I don’t stutter or it’s something that I need to “get over”. I used to hate them for not understanding. Now I realize they have zero clue how to relate to it or empathize with it. They cannot imagine themselves in my position, thus have no realistic way of relating. Could you have read more books on stuttering? Yes. Could they have gone to stuttering groups? Yes. Did they? No. Maybe they just didn’t know any better. I don’t want to blame them or hate them any longer. I hope they tried their best.
