Please search for 'Secondary Symptoms of Stutter' on the web. The movements like "eye blinking, jaw jerking, and head or other involuntary movements" are examples of secondary symptoms. What the secondary symptoms do is that when one uses such activities for the first few weeks, they tend to reduce the stutter and "apparently" speak well. But then, as time passes, the secondary symptoms stay, and the stutter inevitably returns (relapse). I think speaking fast may also be considered as one such secondary symptom. I remember speaking fast when I was 12-14 years ago. And, I used to have a similar notion as you do: > I think it’s just a way for me to avoid stuttering. But then, it didn't last long.
