Should I identify myself as having a disability when applying to jobs? Hi everyone, This is a new reddit account just so I could ask this question but I have had a stutter my whole life. It used to be worse but has never been that bad but has definitely been noticeable my whole life. As a current college student, I am starting to apply to jobs and internships and on many of the applications, it has a section for you to self-identify as having a disability so the company can maintain a certain percentage of its workforce as disabled. My question is, should I choose to identify myself as having a disability? I would imagine that doing so would give me an advantage in the applications because the companies need to hire disabled people and my stutter is generally not bad enough to hinder my performance and I am as qualified as non-disabled candidates for the most part. However, I am not sure if a stutter counts as a disability in the first place or if my stutter is bad enough to count as a disability. Sorry if this has already been asked but I couldn't find anything on it. Thanks in advance!
