Hi! If anxiety is your main problem, you could think of visiting a psychiatrist. I’m 26 years old and I have the same anxiety issues at university and at work, and I decided to visit a psychiatrist 4 weeks ago. He prescribed me medication to reduce my anxiety, and so far I‘ve noticed a clear reduction of my speech anxiety, which also affects the amount of speech blocks I have. I don‘t anticipate my stuttering that much and I don‘t avoid specific words anymore. So I can only recommend that - since speech therapy had some, but only limited effects on my speech anxiety and my stuttering. I believe the reason for that is that after all those years with stuttering my brain learned to unconciously anticipate the words I am likely to stutter on (like a conditioned avoidance response), which in turn triggers a speech block, and no form of cognitive therapy or speech therapy is able to reduce this unconcious anticipation. However, the medication I take is able to do so. I still stutter sometimes, but it affects me way less than it had all the years before because I don’t „freeze up“ completely anymore, but I just keep talking. I hope my text makes some sense. All the best!
