I get the "comfort" stuff from time to time. I've more or less learned to not be upset for very long about it. Most of the time the comfort is coming from a place of ignorance and not worth being upset for long. It also creeps me out a little bit sometimes but I've learned to brush that off quickly. People in general don't get your X years of experience, they just have a few minutes at best of analysis (or even seconds!) and more or less I find it hard to be upset for long when I keep that in mind. We, as stutters get to deal with the problems facing us as stutterers for years, get to have refined thought processes of how we should be treated, but non-stutters think about it a little bit and then get to move on to their normal lives unaware of any possible problems they created. If you're upset about it for any length I can't say you're being unreasonable. I think how people get treated in general as stutterers varies.
