The first step So a bit of background about myself. I'm 19 years old, male and from the UK. I've had a stammer for as long as I remember. The stammer has changed from repeating letters in words when I was younger (7-13) to blocks, which I suffer with now. In school I met a girl, we liked each other and she gave me hint after hint but I was too shy to keep conversation going because of fear of stammering in front of her. We talked over text for 4 years, and now here I am. I'm too late at this point to have a relationship with her but tonight I decided to tell her about my stammer so at least she knew that none of my awkwardness was her fault. She told me she wishes I told her way back when we met because she also suffers from a stammer but very mildly. What I'm trying to get across to you reading this is that you CANNOT hide away for your whole life. Take my mistake as a lesson to you. Tell people when you meet them, the vast majority of people you meet will be very understanding. I'm here for anybody on this subreddit. Feel free to PM me, be it to vent or just chat.
