Hi there, I would describe my stammer in those terms also. My stammer is pretty much interiorised or covert. Very real to me, not very visible to the observer. I would have a difficulty with any therapist suggesting it’s a breathing related issue. It is not nearly as simple as that. Agreed, blocking is rarely shown in tv etc, which I think only serves to reinforce stammering as being an overt, visible behaviour. I have always found the iceberg analogy as being a very telling one to describe the stammering experience. Most of the stammering experience is not visible, similar to an iceberg.
