Unless a SLP specializes in dysfluency, they will be ineffective, at best. This is bc they mostly have the tools to address problems in the mouth area (articulation and swallowing type disorders), and if you can talk “normal” when alone, that indicates the problem does not reside in the mouth area. Besides going to speech therapy for years, I knew many SLPs, and a few even told me “You don’t stutter! You talk fine.” This was When I was very covert, but very impacted, having terrible blocks and avoidance behaviors.
