I’m 33 and an internist in the US doing further training to be an oncologist. I have a significant stutter that has been a part of my medical training experience—often prominently—since the first day of medical school. I could tell you about the challenges, which still remain, and will be there when I see my patients in clinic tomorrow. Even now there are days when I feel I can barely speak. But the objective facts are: I have strong relationships with my patients and they trust me as their doctor. My superiors and peers respect me. And I enjoy what I do.
