You're not being stubborn. In fact, if you've been taught "tools", then you feel the way the majority feel about tools. You don't like them because they don't work when you need them. And they're the antithesis of expressiveness and spontaneous speech. When I was doing them thry felt a bit soul crushing and they just plain did not feel good. IMO, fluency shaping is not a good therapy for the vast majority of people who stutter and it can make things worse. I would also tell your mom that commentating on how much your are stuttering is not helpful as it reinforces the stigma that stuttering is bad, when in truth fluency is overrated and communication is underrated.
