+1 to every comment here. IMO, the most: - compassionate - empathetic - humble - non-judgmental - forgiving - and kind people that I've ever encountered by far are those recovering from narcotics addictions/alcoholism with at least 30 days clean and people who stutter/block. Anyone who has experienced, suffered and endured either or both of these things develop a profound appreciation for patience and humility. On a bit lighter note, being a stutterer has always (surprisingly) been a boost to my luck with women as an adult, not the detriment I so feared it was in grade school. Go figure!
