I'm pretty familiar with the U of O and Carleton (the other university in Ottawa) - I would recommend reaching out to the Student Affairs/Financial Aid office as all Ontario universities have jobs on campus they give to students who need financial aid. The one thing is that usually you need to have applied for OSAP to qualify for these jobs (that's a provincial student loan program that may not be available to foreigners). Also, if you not native to Canada, it is wise to check carefully what you are entitled to do work-wise if you are in Canada on a study visa - again, the school should be able to help you out - every so often there's news of a student being kicked out of university/Canada for working too many hours part-time outside of school. As far as Ottawa goes, there are part-time jobs available with many public-facing/retail jobs would like you to speak both English and French. My recommendation would be to find work in the kitchen of a restaurant/bar. You made a good choice; Ottawa is an amazing city (but man, does it ever get cold).
