Yes he always talked about stuttering, but up until right before the election he always talked about it in the past tense like its something he overcame. Meanwhile it was apparent to anyone who stuttered he was still afflicted by it. There's a great article in the Atlantic. It was towards the beginning of the campaign. Even then he referred to stuttering in the past tense. Something he used to deal with. After that, there was a turning point and the campaign made him identify with still being a stutterer. And you had the scene with the 13 year old boy (which was great by the way). With that being said he had turned covert for the past 60-70 years and he truly believed in his mind he didn't stutter anymore. Overcome yes because obviously he didn't avoid big situations. But on a micro level it's pretty obvious that there's a lot of word substitution going on. I wish he identified as a current stutterer earlier in his career. I wish more stuttering celebrities did this.
