I don't mean this in an offensive way, but your sons life isn't doomed. Chances are he'll grow out of it, but if he doesn't; stutterers aren't incapable of having a normal life like it seems like you have the impression of. Intellectually, many are even smarter with a greater vocabulary than most. They're quick-thinking. How many persons do you know that can start saying a sentence, then as they are saying it are able to completely re-structure it without losing meaning? That's a skill most of us have picked up without even practicing. We're walking, talking and breathing thesauruses. Many stutterers will more than often compensate what they lack of verbal skills through writing. I'm an adult. I've been stuttering my entire life. There are of course persons who've made fun of me, but they drown in the amount of people I've come across that doesn't care. And to be completely honest, those bullies have bullied other kids at the same school for something completely different as well. Bullies will be bullies. If it's not stuttering, then it's your clothes, or your hair or your wealth, or your taste in music.... Bottom-line: Your son will work out JUST fine.
