Let me tell you this. Companies and their HR are not your friends. If you’re a liability in anyway, they will do what’s best for the company and not care for your situation. If you tell them right away that you stutter then that is a reason for them not to hire you. If you don’t tell them then they will just think you are nervous for the interview lol. Once they hire you, they cannot fire you for your stuttering because it is illegal. If you tell them at the interview that you stutter, it is also illegal for them to use that against you and not hire you, but they can just claim weren’t a good candidate. And if you say you have a stuttering problem, some HR departments might see that as a potential future issue if they were to let you go. Most companies will not want to deal with a possible lawsuit or any issues concerning human rights and disabilities. I guess it depends on your role. If you’re more behind the scenes and little to no talking, then maybe it won’t be bad to mention that. But I think regardless I wouldn’t bring it up that you stutter in the interview because most recruiters and employers might see that as a flaw. In the end, does your stutter affect your intelligence and your actual skills? No. Those skills are what matters and defines you and should get you the job, not your stuttering. You should just go to your interview and do your best! Everyone I talk to does terribly at interviews. Even if you look at celebrity interviews, a lot of them say “ummm... like..” and they stutter and stammer as well. If you stutter at your interviews then they’ll just think it’s your nerves! Also, when companies say “good communication”, it doesn’t necessarily mean a lot of talking. Good communication is also just good etiquette, manners, giving clear directions, writing emails, and being able to get along with people. If the role requires a lot of talking then it will let you know in the job description, saying you need to do presentations, answer phone calls, meet with customers, etc. Anyways, good luck with your interview and job searching :).
