I remember reading an experiment done with children a while ago. They had 2 groups of children that stuttered, group A they repeatedly them that their stutter was only temporary and would go away with time, group B they told them that their stutter would never go away and that they would be stuck with it for the rest of their life indefinitely. When the children got older, they found that group A had mostly outgrown their stutter and had learned to overcome it. Group B however, had severe stutters that never went away or got better. Obviously I don’t have a link to the study, but I’m sure you can find it if you Google it. So in my opinion, and from my experience, it’s about your perspective on how you view your stutter.
