My parents took me in to the doctor immediately when I began stuttering at age 4/5 because they were concerned. He just shrugged it off and didn’t ask any questions. Nothing about how I feel about it, how long to wait to see if it goes away, any risk factors, nothing. So my parents just trusted him waiting year after year and i when I realized I had trouble speaking, I ended up avoiding/hiding it. Very sad thinking what my life would’ve been like if I got the help I so desperately needed. Even without speech therapy most kids outgrow stuttering on their own. Why couldn’t I just be one of them?
