I've read through this thread, and I'd just like to chime in that I'm a high school teacher with a moderate-to-severe stutter. I've been at it for almost 20 years, and no it isn't 100% perfect all of the time. Honestly, some years have been pretty dark, but I have managed to make it work so far. I also love my job (most days :) ). Now, I'd be lying if I said that my speech had zero impact on my career choices. Radio/Television announcer was probably out. Anything where I'd have to speak on a demanding clock (emergency response or acting) was out. But, I also wasn't passionate about those either. If I can survive speaking all day in front of a semi-hostile audience, maybe I could have made those work if I'd wanted to. I guess my point is: what fields pose an interest to you? Within reason, you can probably find a career in them regardless of your speech. Now if your heart is set on something that doesn't require a lot of speech, look into the skilled trades. You can make a decent paycheck as a plumber (for example).
