I've done this for most of my life, and still sometimes do. I feel like it's important to learn NOT to. Even if not all at once, just try doing it a few times a day. Avoiding words (to me) only results in being more self conscious about my stutter; avoiding words increases the fear of stuttering. Powering through it and not caring about what people think over time will reduce your anxiety around stuttering and could make you talk easier. Trying to actively hide has done nothing but harm me tbh. Give it a try :)
