Only thing that works for me is owning it and being proactive about building a 'toolkit' of ways to manage it. If you aren't proactively taking steps to manage it, it can feel like it's taking over. The book 'self-therapy for the stutterer' helped big time. Especially the part about desensitizing yourself to the stutter.
