I called my mom and my grandma today! It was especially hard to bring myself to call my grandma since she only speaks English and it's not my native language (making me block more), but I still did it and I couldn't be happier! Both calls could have gone better and there were blocks, but going the extra mile to show them how much I care about them and hearing their heartfelt appreciation far outweighed any negative feelings. If you're putting off calling a loved one, I'd encourage you to just do it! Chances are they'd much rather receive a call from you and hear you stutter than just never get a call at all. The worst that can happen is that you'll have some awkward moments, but that's water under the bridge - the main takeaway will be that you thought of them and cared enough to spend time and effort calling them. Of course, this is in no way meant to make you feel bad if you'd still rather not make those kinds of calls for whatever reason! But as someone who absolutely dreads phone conversations and often avoids them to the point of seeming unavailable to friends and family, I just wanted to share my own little success and hopefully inspire others to break through that mental barrier.
