🤔 Is it possible to stutter and have true self expression at the same time? (My experience) 🤔 Is it possible to stutter and have true self expression at the same time? That's a difficult question to answer.  That may confuse you when I say that because if you have been following my stuff for a while, you would understand im all about not letting the stutter control your life and doing whatever you want regardless if you stutter or not.  And that's true. Stuttering should not dictate your life AT ALL. But there's also a reality check I don't talk about that often… It’s that, sometimes you are too “locked up” to access any authentic thought or way of being.  Sometimes you will be in a state where you just feel constant repressiveness and you are second guessing and anticipating everything before you say or act it.  Sometimes you will feel so stifled that you just shut down completely and the version you present to people is just a shell of a human.  I’ve been there many times, It’s not a fun emotional state to live in.  But this isn't a post that just states the harsh truth and doesn't have any upside..  It certainly has an upside.  The upside is a promise to you.  I promise you do not get into these states where you can't express yourself because of your stutter.  Let me rephrase that.  Stuttering does not put you into a repressive, withheld, uncertain and fearful state.  Stuttering is the outcome to these states you are in, and can certainly make these states more and more negative with the more you stutter. But ultimately the reason you get put into these states is because you feel it is unsafe to express your authentic self.  That's it.  When we feel like it's unsafe to express our authentic self… We forge into a version of ourselves that we have learned is the “safest” version that will avoid the most judgement from others.  👉We stop be controversial  👉We start pleasing others 👉We start trying to prove ourselves 👉We believe everything we say or do must be perfect 👉We pretend like we are someone we are not (white lies are extremely common to happen in these states) Our inability to feel safe in the face of judgement and uncertain opinions of others is what makes us feel unsafe to express ourselves authentically.  With that, in situations where you feel the most judgement or you value the judgments very highly, you will be put into these repressive states.  Stuttering is a bi-product of the tension that is formed and created and stored in these emotional states.  That's why all my progress I have made in “my speech” happened so dramatically and so efficiently.  I focused on the real underlying issues at play, allowing me to express myself freely in 99% of situations. So answering the first question, “Is it possible to stutter and have true self expression at the same time?” I would say, if you are still feeling unsafe to express yourself in certain situations, no. Regardless if you stutter or not.  BUT if you have worked internally, have changed your perception to other people's judgements and have stopped viewing your stutter as a reason to say “why me?” then yes. You can stutter and express yourself however you please.  Much love, hope this was valuable.
