Possible Treatment For Stuttering After deep diving and doing research, I stumbled upon a fascinating video (attached below). This led me down a path to explore TMS and it’s application. If you can disrupt speech and cause stuttering using a TMS coil, why can’t you reverse engineer it? Intrigued by the possibilities of TMS therapy to modulate brain activity, I eagerly explored its application for addressing the neural irregularities underlying my condition. Recently, I underwent 30 sessions of TMS spread over 6 weeks (without an fMRI study and mapping) with hopes to improve and treat this disability. Each session involved: * Applying a high frequency to stimulate the SMA. * As well as applying a low frequency to reduce activity in the right DLPFC, hoping to reduce anxiety. I didn’t see any noticeable changes in my speech. I believe not using the fMRI to analyze my brain and map it correctly might not have given me the best chance to treat my stutter. Additionally, the regions that we targeted may have been incorrect, as well as the positioning of the coil, the dosage, or all the above. The simple truth is, I don’t stutter when I’m by myself. When I am fully alone, I can speak out loud with full fluency, but as soon as someone enters the room or I begin speaking to another person, I start stuttering. I believe there’s something being triggered in my brain when speaking to another person, and with the right doctor and fMRI study, we can address the issue and use TMS to treat it. https://reddit.com/link/1c0bjeo/video/w7ej29u4kktc1/player
