I had a similar experience. I'm a med student, and one of my patients had a stutter. I was so happy to hear her stutter that I almost hugged her. For the first time in my life, I was actually proud of it. For so long in my life I was scared of meeting other stutterers because I thought it would just kill me to hear what I sound like to others, but it was surprisingly a positive experience. I think in my life, I've met a total of four other stutterers (that I've known of).
