Seek out a professional SLP that's specializes in stuttering. Making such a connection for that family may be life-changing for that young lady. I think one of the best things somebody in your position can do is recognize when a student needs help and seek out the right resource. Many stutterers receive insufficient or inadequate assistance from the school systems. No disrespect to the school systems, but they're just not well equipped to provide the assistance. Often our first experience with speech therapy is through the school system. When it doesn't help, we sometimes form the incorrect first impression that speech therapy doesn't work. Obviously the above suggestion is a long-term strategy. For her immediate needs, have her sing it. Singing is quite different than speech. If you and she can come up with a melody that she likes that will fit the recital, go for it! You may want to give the church a heads up. I would not pose it to the church as a question. More of a "this is how it is going to happen" conversation. Maybe there's a church hymn that she likes that has a melody that matches what she has to recite.
