When I was younger I saw a therapist for around four years, although I had an alright experience and I at least semi liked my therapist as a person, I hated the concept of speech therapy. As I grew older I began to realize that I’m going to stutter for the rest of my life so why am I investing so much time and energy into something I hate. I recommend voicing your options on speech therapy to your mom, but do so in a less emotional way, instead of arguing about it when she takes you, talk about it over dinner, or at a time when both sides are not worked up or in any predisposed moods. I recommend googling the National Stuttering Association or the International Stuttering Association. They provide support for people who stutter and may have a local chapter in your area where you can connect with others who stutter. I feel that being involved with the National stuttering association has changed my life and has impacted me in a deeper and more effective way than speech therapy ever could.
