Too much serotonin? I’ve had a stutter ever since I was a kid and nothing really helped. I’d have some stretches where I was pretty fluent, lasting anywhere from a few hours to months but it’d always come back. A few months ago I was having anxiety and was sent to see a psychiatrist who put me on ssri’s, trying a new one ever couple weeks. They all gave me severe serotonin syndrome symptoms: confusion, disorientation, anxiety, horrible irritability and anger, super fast reflexes etc. Even on half of the smallest dose of paxil(2.5mg). So I left that doctor and this new doc put me on other serotonin meds without telling me they were serotonergic(trazodone, buspirone, etc) so I had minor serotonin syndrome for months. Because of the irritability and anger it caused, I started snapping at my friends over small things and turned into a massive dickhead, and I ended up losing every one of my friends. Then she switched me from trazodone to mirtrazapine and I got the worst case of serotonin syndrome ever. I was even hallucinating and shit. So I left that doctor and my current doc put me on Ativan everyday. After coming off the serotonin drugs I realized how much of an ass I was and apologized to my friends, parents, and basically anyone who was around me the past year. I currently take Ativan everyday and a couple weeks ago I tried mdma. I didn’t enjoy it that much but the few weeks afterwards I spoke almost completely fluent. So is it possible serotonin is causing my stutter, or at least making it worse? I also found a study on stutterers and serotonin. It says that people who stuttered had 300% more serotonin on average that the control group. TL;DR Smallest dose of ssri’s causes severe serotonin syndrome. I had fluent speech for weeks after taking mdma.
