I think that it could be both genetic and a coin toss. Both of my parents stuttered but as they got older it’s not really prevalent anymore. Every now and then I catch my dad having a hiccup while speaking but my mom doesn’t really do it anymore. I was the “lucky one” to have obtained a stutter out of their three kids which still heavily impacts me to this day. I always envied my siblings for speaking better than I do.
