sorry to hear about your incident similar story I had a stroke at 8yrs old and had a server stutter ever since (I’m 23 now) but there are ways and techniques to get through the stutter/blocks. Number one thing that has helped me has been centering my breathes knowing how much breath I have in my lungs and how much im exerting allows the words to ease out because for us stutterers we often can not catch our breath it’s physically like being choked so by being conscious and observing your flow helps out a lot. Next thing I would say to do is visualize the words wether that’s sounding them out in your head or remembering how you used to say them in your case the memories are more recent so tapping into the past may help. Visualize the words/letters leaving your mouth before/as you’re saying them. Be aware that it’s happening or about to happen. We often know when we’re going to stutter it a clenching feeling, when you know you know. The benefits of this is that feeling allows you to A. Stop yourself, gather that breath you need/Relax into the word/Direct your focus more on the delivery and B. Direct yourself away from that word which to me isn’t the best option because you want to be able to say every word without having to switch to a different one but if there’s a word or phrase that relays the same message go for it. (Sometimes over annunciating helps too) Last thing (for now at least) WARM UP YOUR VOCALS/LIPS! I’m sure your throat/lips maybe jaw often feels tight what I’ve found helpful for the throat is to hum but while doing it focus on the vibrations happening in your larynx. I like to hum while listening to music think of it as you’re a singer and you’re about to go on stage, would you just go up on stage or harmonize a few times before hand to warm up? Try to hum low notes and work your way up to the higher then back to your true speaking tone. As for the lips flap them buzz them stretch them by exaggerating nouns ( A E I O U) this will also loosen your jaw. Non vocal things to try: meditation (bc when frustration sets in it’s a bitch to talk your way out of it), green/herbal tea ( to relax the throat muscles) , do something that eases your mind. maybe there’s a show on Netflix you really enjoy, animals or a hobby you like doing. that will naturally ease your mind and you’ll see that speaking becomes easier every time you’re in that headspace. Sorry if this is really long just trying to help where I can my man I know how hard and frustrating it is knowing EVERY word you want to say but physically struggle saying it. You seem like you’ll do anything to overcome it and since you’re catching it early it probably won’t last long term.I feel you’ll be doing everything you can to get rid of it and I’m rooting that you defeat it. I hope something from this helps you on your journey back to fluency. Stay blessed, stay healthy 🙏
