I know a few people who have speech impediments including stuttering. Usually the younger you are the more embarrassed you are for them, then it turns to a more sympathetic/empathetic stance as you get older. At least that's how it was for me. My stutter isn't terrible, though, so that may make me feel more for people with worse speed impediments.
