It's not a scam. I had a similar experience when I gave a speech in front of an audience in school. When I spoke into the mic, the speakers would play it with a delay and it somehow alleviated my stuttering. But yes, I do understand when some people say the effects wear off and I personally never used their device but I wouldn't call it a scam.
