Absolutely this happens to many stutters including myself at 40 , they don't care of stuttering at all & it's impact would have reduced so much at 40. Experience & maturity level & support from long family life with kids all contribute to lesser lesser stuttering till the end of one's life. Period of stuttering troubles are from 18 to 30 mostly.
