Mate, mind my language, but what the fuck did you expect their reaction to be? For the average person, hearing/seeing a stutterer is translated as extreme nervousness or some mental disorder. They can't comprehend what this is because they probably have rarely or never seen it directly in their life. (Yes, they may know of it), but for instance an interviewer or a judging panel, in your case, will translate your blocking and stuttering to nervousness and unpreparedness which = FAIL. You have to disclose it prior to anything and it will work in your favor. The audience and judges will actually be impressed by your courage and the situation will be framed differently. Whereas, saying nothing, it just leads people to think you are too nervous to perform. I know you're only 19 and stuttering has a big Ego component to it. I was like you and just wanted to be 100% fluent so people would take my skills and knowledge seriously. But from my experience now, that's a very unhealthy way to go about it because sometimes it just isn't in your control. I don't give a fuck if others thumbs down my comment because I'm giving you the hard truth. Own your stutter and it will do wonders for you. It makes you unique and it will make you stand out in a herd of hundreds of students doing and saying the same thing.
