Has anyone had medication help their stutter? I’ve been a lifelong stutter. I’m 41. To me, it feels like a surge of anxiety and energy (difficult to explain) that completely locks up my speech. I’ve been prescribed diazepam, but not nearly enough. It lasts me about 2 weeks and it’s the only reprieve I’ve ever experienced. For those two weeks I’m completely fluent. In any situation. I understand the danger of drugs like this but it makes me wonder if in my case it might be related to some kind of anxiety disorder or something like that. I don’t recommend trying this to anyone else but it might be an avenue of research that may be worth following. For two weeks a month it feels like I can actually breathe and I’ve been relying on that for things like phone calls (which are impossible for me to make otherwise) and handling whatever business I need to for the month. Has anyone experienced anything similar with pharmaceuticals? One thing I’ve learned from reading this sub is that there are multiple reasons people stutter. This might not be good for a lot of people but it’s led to me having a girlfriend and living a somewhat normal life. I’m still having trouble finding work but I guess that just comes with the territory.
