Well. I have my BSc in chemistry and MSc in earth system science. I work at a university so academia. I get by at 80k. But it took 8 yrs to get there. If I work in industry I'd be pulling 6 figures by now. Academia is much more lax though when compared to industry. And I like it. Any higher and I'd have to go grant writing and that's not my jam. The PI worries about money. I worry about lab and machine operations.
