Also you could just be holding yourself to a higher expectation in English because it is your native language. And in German you feel comfortable because your German acquaintances don’t hold you accountable for making mistakes, because they just assume as a foreigner you do things differently. And around them you feel a sense of confidence because you almost assume the role of teacher because you teach them about your culture. Does this make sense? Do you often feel a sense of extra importance around them because you know cultural things they don’t? This may be where some of your comfort around them is coming from
