Thanks for asking! Well, the event that helped me to discover SLP as a profession was someone very close to me having a stroke at the age of 21 and developing permanent difficulty with speech and language as a result (a condition called aphasia). At the time I was working as an English teacher, and it occurred to me that I could be doing something more rewarding and doing something that genuinely helped humanity. It's also the kind of job where you could work in a completely different setting every year - which is helpful for me, because I'm kind of a rolling stone.
